How these rates are worked out
The 24K rate is the live international spot price of gold, converted from US dollars per troy ounce into dirhams per gram at the fixed USD–AED rate of 3.6725 — the same calculation behind the gold box on our homepage.
The 22K, 21K and 18K rates are calculated from the 24K rate by purity: 22K = 24K × 22/24, 21K = 24K × 21/24, 18K = 24K × 18/24. Jewellery shops in the Gold Souk and malls add making charges and 5% VAT on top, and their buying rate will be a little below the spot rate shown here.
