Every year, thousands of Pakistanis arrive in Dubai on a visit visa hoping to find a job and stay. Some succeed through the legal route. But many lose their savings, overstay, or fall into the hands of fake agents β because they misunderstand one critical rule: you cannot work on a visit visa in the UAE. Not even for a few days, not even “on trial.”
The rule, clearly stated:
- A visit or tourist visa allows tourism, family visits, and business meetings. It does not allow employment of any kind.
- Working for a UAE-based employer on a visit visa is illegal and can lead to fines, deportation, and a future entry ban.
- Employers who hire people without work permits also face penalties β so genuine companies will not ask you to start working before your permit is ready.
What you CAN do on a visit visa:
- Attend interviews and meet employers in person.
- Explore the job market, visit companies, and network.
- If a company offers you a job, it must then arrange a proper work permit and residence visa for you before you start working.
The legal path, step by step:
- Come on a visit visa and search for jobs, or apply from Pakistan through proper channels.
- Get a genuine job offer from a UAE employer.
- Your employer applies for your work permit through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
- Complete your medical fitness test and get your Emirates ID.
- Only start working once your work permit and residence visa are approved.
The risks of working illegally:
- Overstay fines of AED 50 per day, plus a AED 200 service charge for the exit permit.
- Overstaying more than 30 days can result in a multi-year UAE entry ban.
- Deportation, and a record that makes every future visa application harder.
- Fake agents who charge huge fees for “visit visa jobs” and disappear. Remember: employers pay recruitment and visa costs, not workers. Anyone demanding large upfront fees for a job is a red flag.
The numbers that matter:
- Around 40,000 to 50,000 Pakistanis are employed in the UAE and receive visas each year through legal channels. The legal route works β it is the shortcut that fails.
- Nearly 2 million Pakistanis already live and work in the UAE legally. You can join them the right way.
Bottom line: use your visit visa to find the job, not to do the job. Get the offer first, let the employer handle the permit, and start work only when the paperwork is complete.
