If you want to search for a job in Dubai in person — attending interviews, meeting employers, exploring the market — there is a legal visa made exactly for that: the UAE jobseeker visa. It is different from a visit visa, and for qualified Pakistanis it is often the smarter choice. Here is how it works.
What the jobseeker visa is:
- A visa that lets you enter the UAE specifically to look for employment.
- You can attend interviews, meet employers, and network — but you cannot start working until your employer arranges a work permit and residence visa.
- It is a pre-approved visa: you must obtain it before travelling. It is not available on arrival.
Who it suits:
- Graduates and skilled professionals with qualifications and experience in demand in the UAE.
- People who want to job-hunt on the ground rather than applying from Pakistan.
- Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria — qualifications, skill level, and other requirements set by the authorities.
Jobseeker visa vs visit visa — why it matters:
- Visit visa: for tourism, family visits, meetings. Job searching is tolerated (interviews are fine), but the visa’s purpose is not employment.
- Jobseeker visa: your stated purpose IS finding a job. Immigration understands why you are there, which makes your case clearer.
- Both visas forbid actual work before a permit. The difference is the purpose on your file — and a clear, honest purpose is always stronger.
The process, step by step:
- Check the eligibility criteria for your category on the official ICP portal.
- Prepare your documents: passport (6+ months validity), attested degrees and certificates, CV, proof of funds, and any other documents the category requires.
- Apply through the official channel before travelling.
- Travel to the UAE and search for work: apply for roles, attend interviews, meet recruiters.
- When you receive a genuine job offer, your employer applies for your work permit through MoHRE.
- Complete your medical fitness test, get your Emirates ID, and receive your residence visa — then start work legally.
What you need to succeed:
- A realistic plan: research which roles and companies hire your profile before you arrive.
- Enough funds: you must support yourself during the search, and the 3000 Dirham airport sustenance check applies on arrival too.
- Genuine documents: attested degrees and a truthful CV. Fake credentials end careers, not start them.
- Time management: know your visa’s duration and never overstay. Overstay fines are AED 50 per day plus a AED 200 exit charge, and overstaying over 30 days risks a multi-year ban.
Mistakes to avoid:
- Starting work “on trial” before your permit — illegal, with fines, deportation, and ban as consequences.
- Paying an agent for a “jobseeker visa with guaranteed job” — the visa does not include a job, and guarantees are scams.
- Arriving with no plan, no funds, and no research — the jobseeker visa rewards preparation, not hope.
The opportunity is real:
- Around 40,000 to 50,000 Pakistanis receive UAE employment visas each year. Many of them found their roles by being present, prepared, and persistent in the UAE job market.
- With nearly 2 million Pakistanis already working in the UAE, the community and the market are there. The jobseeker visa is your legal ticket to join them.
