Order dinner in Dubai and you will probably open one of four apps: Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem or noon Food. They all deliver from many of the same kitchens, but differ in coverage, fees, subscriptions and the features that matter on a tired weeknight. This comparison looks at how residents use them day to day.
Coverage and Restaurant Choice
Talabat is one of the longest-established platforms in the region and typically has very broad coverage, from big chains to small neighbourhood cafeterias in areas such as Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Nahda and International City. That depth is useful if you live outside the newer districts or prefer independent places.
Deliveroo has traditionally been strong in areas including Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown, Business Bay and Jumeirah, with a curated mix that leans towards popular restaurants and its own delivery-only kitchen concepts. Careem, known first for ride-hailing, brings food into the same app many residents already use for cars and other daily services. noon Food builds on the noon shopping platform, and its restaurant selection has grown around the areas and brands noon already serves. In practice, coverage overlaps a lot in central Dubai and differs most at the edges β check your exact building address in each app, because availability is hyper-local.
Fees, Minimum Orders and Subscriptions
Delivery fees, service fees and minimum orders vary by restaurant, distance and time of day on all four platforms, and promotions change frequently. A meal that is cheap on the menu can look different at checkout once fees are added, so compare the final total, not the headline price.
- Talabat: Offers a subscription programme, often called talabat pro, typically promising free delivery on eligible orders above a minimum, among other perks.
- Deliveroo: Its Plus subscription typically waives or reduces delivery fees on eligible orders above a set minimum, with tiers that have changed over time.
- Careem: Careem Plus bundles food delivery benefits with ride and other service perks, which can suit people who already use Careem daily.
- noon Food: noon’s subscription options have at times included food delivery benefits alongside shopping perks; check what is currently included before relying on it.
A subscription only pays off if you order often enough from eligible restaurants. If you order twice a month, pay-as-you-go with occasional codes is usually better value.
Speed, Tracking and Reliability
All four apps offer live tracking, estimated times and in-app support, but the experience depends heavily on rider availability in your area at that moment. Peak dinner hours, weekend evenings and rainy days β rare as they are β stretch estimates everywhere. Deliveroo and Talabat both show fairly detailed rider tracking in most areas. Careem benefits if you are already mid-journey in the app, keeping rides and food in one place. noon Food’s tracking has improved as the service has grown, though residents in some areas still report a smaller rider pool at quiet times. For a group deadline, such as iftar or guests arriving, ordering earlier than the estimate suggests is wise on any platform.
Groceries, Pharmacies and Extras
Food is only part of the picture now. Talabat includes groceries and pharmacy items through its own dark-store and partner networks in many areas. Careem offers groceries, pharmacy and other everyday services alongside food, which suits a combined order mindset. Deliveroo has grocery and retail partners in its stronger districts. noon Food sits next to noon’s wider shopping and grocery offer, handy if you already shop there. Selection and delivery windows differ, so for urgent items check which app actually serves your building fastest that evening.
Which One Should You Keep?
Most Dubai residents end up keeping two apps: one main platform where they hold a subscription or saved addresses, and one backup for restaurants the first does not carry. If choice in older neighbourhoods matters, start with Talabat. If you live in Deliveroo’s core areas and like its restaurant mix, start there. If you already live in Careem for rides, its bundle may be simplest. If you shop on noon regularly, its food arm is a natural extra.
Fees, subscriptions and restaurant lists change often, so revisit your choice every few months. Compare the same order at checkout in two apps, watch the final total, and let your own street β not advertising β decide which icon earns the home screen spot.
