For the nearly 2 million Pakistanis living in the UAE, bringing family over is often the biggest dream after getting settled. Whether you want your wife and children to join you on residence visas, or to visit you on a family visit visa, the rules are clear β and meeting them is very doable if you prepare properly.
Two routes for family:
Route 1: Family visit visa (short stay)
- Your family visits you for 30, 60, or 90 days.
- You act as their host/sponsor in the UAE.
- They need: valid passports, your Emirates ID and residence visa copies, your tenancy contract or accommodation proof, return tickets, and funds proof.
- Visit visas for Pakistanis are mainly processed through registered agents, airlines, or sponsors in 2026.
- Remember: visitors cannot work, and overstaying brings fines of AED 50 per day plus a AED 200 exit charge β and risks a multi-year ban after 30 days.
Route 2: Family residence visa (long stay)
- Your wife and children live with you in the UAE as your dependents.
- You sponsor them on your residence visa.
- Requirements typically include: your valid residence visa and Emirates ID, attested marriage certificate (for your wife) and attested birth certificates (for children), your tenancy contract, and proof of income meeting the sponsorship threshold.
- Commonly cited income thresholds for family sponsorship are around AED 20,000 per month, or AED 3,000 per month where accommodation is provided by the employer β confirm the current figure for your situation, as it can vary by emirate and category.
- Your family members then complete medical fitness tests and receive their own Emirates IDs.
Documents you must get right:
- Marriage certificate and birth certificates: attested in Pakistan first, then through the proper UAE channels. A broken attestation chain is the most common reason family applications stall.
- Passports: valid for at least 6 months for every family member.
- Your tenancy contract (Ejari in Dubai): proof of suitable accommodation is essential.
- Salary certificate or labour contract: proof of your income.
Why family applications succeed more often:
- Family-linked applications are approved at better rates than solo first-time applications. Immigration sees genuine ties and a clear purpose.
- Families also fare better under the current stricter scrutiny that hit younger solo applicants hardest in 2026.
- A complete, attested, honest file is the key β family cases rarely fail when the documents are right.
Tips for a smooth process:
- Start attestation in Pakistan early β it takes weeks, and you don’t want your family waiting on paperwork.
- Apply for all dependents together where possible, to keep the process consistent.
- Keep copies of everything: attested certificates, tenancy contract, salary proof.
- If your employer provides accommodation, get that in writing β it can change the income threshold that applies to you.
- Never use an agent who offers to “arrange” a marriage or birth certificate. Fake documents mean rejection and bans for the whole family.
Bringing your family to Dubai is one of the most rewarding steps of expat life. Prepare the documents properly, meet the income and housing requirements, and the process is straightforward.
