Complete and consistent documents help importers prepare for customs clearance. The exact requirements depend on the goods, route, origin, destination and applicable approvals.
Start with the requirements
Common documents may include a commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, certificate of origin and import permit or product-specific approval where required. Check that the product description, quantities, weights, values and parties match across the documents. Confirm the correct commodity classification with a qualified broker or the relevant customs authority.
Build a repeatable process
Ask the supplier for draft documents before shipment so discrepancies can be corrected early. Keep copies of declarations, payment evidence and release documents. Maintain a record for each shipment and identify who is responsible for providing missing information or responding to customs questions.
Check the latest guidance
Not every shipment requires the same documents. Requirements and tariff treatment may change, so verify the current list with the relevant UAE customs authority before shipping.
