What to Organise Before Moving to the UAE

By DXB TALK ·

Moving to the UAE is an exciting step, but a smooth move depends on what you organise before you board the plane. A little planning in the early weeks saves a great deal of stress later, especially when you arrive in a new city with a different climate, rhythm and way of doing things.

Sort the essentials first

Start with the documents you will need again and again: your passport, educational certificates, employment paperwork and any references from previous employers. Keep both originals and clear copies, and store digital scans somewhere you can reach them easily. If any document needs attestation or translation, begin that process early, as it can take longer than expected.

Next, think about your arrival week. Arrange temporary accommodation before you travel so you are not searching for a place to sleep after a long flight. A short-term stay gives you breathing room to explore neighbourhoods properly before committing to anything longer term.

Plan your money and daily life

Open a clear picture of your monthly costs before you move. Housing, transport, groceries, schooling and health cover all vary, so build a realistic budget rather than guessing. Keep some savings aside for deposits, setup costs and the first few weeks while routines settle.

It also helps to learn the basics of daily life in advance: how public transport works, what the working week looks like, and which everyday services you will need first, such as a local phone connection and a bank account. Knowing these things in advance makes your first week feel far less overwhelming.

Settle in gradually

Once you arrive, give yourself permission to take things step by step. Register for the services you need, explore your neighbourhood on foot, and join a community group or social activity that matches your interests. Meeting people early makes a new city feel like home much faster.

A well-organised move is not about doing everything at once. It is about handling the essentials first, keeping your paperwork in order, and leaving room to adapt as you learn how life works in the UAE.
