Public Transport in Mankhool: Metro, Bus and Tram Links Explained

Mankhool is well served by two Metro lines and useful bus routes, though it has no tram. How to get around the area and connect across Dubai explained.

Mankhool, the well-established neighbourhood in Bur Dubai between Satwa and Karama, is one of the easier older districts to live in without a car: the Red and Green Metro lines both run within walking distance of much of the area, buses thread through its main roads towards Deira, Karama and the coast, and although there is no tram in Mankhool itself, the wider network connects smoothly at interchange stations for trips towards Media City and the Marina.

The Metro: Your Two Nearest Lifelines

Most Mankhool addresses sit within a walk of one of two stations. On the western side, the Red Line at BurJuman and the stations towards the World Trade Centre serve trips along Sheikh Zayed Road to Downtown, DIFC and Dubai Marina. BurJuman is also the key interchange where the Red and Green lines cross, opening up the Green Line towards Al Futtaim, Deira, the Creek stations and eventually the Academic City direction. On the eastern side, Green Line stations around Karama and Oud Metha are practical for many Mankhool streets, especially for hospital, school and consulate trips in that direction.

Trains run from early morning to around midnight, later on some days, with frequent services at peak times. As with all Dubai Metro travel, you need a Nol card, fares are charged by zones travelled, and Mankhool’s central position means many everyday journeys fall in the cheaper zone combinations. Check the live RTA timetable before an early flight or late shift, as first and last train times differ by day of the week and station.

Buses Through and Around Mankhool

  • Local routes connect Mankhool with Karama, Satwa, Jafiliya and the Al Fahidi historic area for short hops the Metro does not suit
  • Routes towards Deira cross via the BurJuman and Union area interchanges for the Gold Souk and Baniyas side
  • Services towards the coast link residents to Jumeirah beaches and the Satwa and Al Wasl corridors
  • Intercity and longer routes from nearby main stations, including services towards other emirates, are reachable with one short bus or Metro leg
  • Feeder-style connections make BurJuman and Al Futtaim practical hubs for combining bus and Metro in one Nol-paid journey

Bus stops in Mankhool are mostly air-conditioned shelters, and the RTA’s S’hail app gives real-time arrivals so you are not standing in summer heat longer than needed. In the warmest months, many residents plan around a simple rule: walk to the Metro for longer trips, use buses for shaded short hops, and keep a taxi budget for the midday errands that do not fit either.

About the Tram — and Connecting Beyond

There is no tram line in Bur Dubai, and it helps to be clear about that because newcomers sometimes search for one. The Dubai Tram runs in Al Sufouh, the Marina and JBR, on the other side of the city. From Mankhool, the connection is straightforward: ride the Red Line towards the Marina side, change at the interchange stations that link Metro to Tram, and continue to JBR or Media City on the tram from there. The whole journey is Nol-based and signposted inside the stations, and it turns what sounds complicated into a single seated trip for most of the way.

The same interchange logic covers other longer journeys: Metro to Al Futtaim or Union for Deira-side buses, Metro south for the Mall of the Emirates and onwards buses to Motor City and Arabian Ranches directions, and Metro plus taxi for the final stretch to places the rail network does not yet reach, such as parts of Dubailand.

Everyday Tips for Mankhool Residents

Keep your Nol card topped up through the app so a low balance never delays you at the gates, and consider the monthly or student and senior options if you commute daily — eligibility and current prices are listed on the official RTA site, and regular travellers typically save meaningfully compared with single fares as a guide. Learn both your nearest Red and Green options rather than only one; when one line has a delay, the other often still gets you across the Creek or along Sheikh Zayed Road on time. Finally, in summer, choose the station entrance closest to your building even if it looks minor on the map — covered and shaded approaches in the BurJuman area make a real difference at midday.

FAQ

What is the closest Metro station to most of Mankhool?
BurJuman is the main station for much of the neighbourhood and offers both Red and Green lines. Eastern streets may find Karama-side Green Line stations closer, so check from your exact building.

Is there a tram station in Mankhool?
No. The tram serves the Marina, JBR and Al Sufouh. From Mankhool you reach it by Red Line Metro and a short interchange walk at the connecting stations.

Can I pay for buses and Metro with one card?
Yes. The Nol card works across Metro, tram, buses and other RTA services, with fares based on zones. Keep it topped up via the Nol or S’hail app.

With two Metro lines, useful buses and easy tram connections across the city, Mankhool rewards car-free living more than most districts its age. Explore more area transport guides on DXB Talk and in our Dubai Areas section.
