Warehouse layout affects picking speed, inventory accuracy and delivery performance. E-commerce sellers should design storage around the products and order patterns they actually handle.
Start with the requirements
Map the flow from receiving and inspection to storage, picking, packing, dispatch and returns. Group fast-moving items where they are easy to reach, label locations clearly and separate damaged or quarantined stock. Keep walkways safe and provide appropriate space for packing materials and carrier handovers.
Build a repeatable process
Set a routine for cycle counts, stock adjustments and recording returns. Track order accuracy, pick time, stock discrepancies and dispatch cut-off performance. Consider seasonal peaks and the time needed to replenish popular products. If using a third-party logistics provider, agree on inventory reporting and service levels.
Check the latest guidance
Storage, fire safety and product-handling requirements depend on the goods and facility. Check local approvals and any special rules for food, chemicals, batteries or other regulated products.
