Police Character Certificate for UAE Work Visa: How to Get One from Pakistan

By DXB TALK ·

If you are a Pakistani applying for a UAE work visa in 2026, there is one document you must not leave to the last minute: the Police Character Certificate (PCC). It is now required for work visa cases, and getting it takes time. Here is how to get one from Pakistan, correctly.

What the PCC is:

  • An official certificate from Pakistani police authorities confirming whether you have a criminal record.
  • It is a standard requirement for UAE employment and residence visa processing.
  • Note: the PCC requirement applies to work permits and residence visas — visit visa applicants do not need one, though they should carry other documents proving their purpose of visit.

How to get a PCC in Pakistan:

  • Apply through your local District Police Office or the designated police facilitation centre in your city.
  • In major cities, online application portals are also available — check your district police website for the current process.
  • You will need: your CNIC, passport, photographs, and an application form. Some offices ask for the purpose of the certificate (employment abroad) and the destination country.
  • Processing time varies by district — from days to several weeks. Apply as soon as you start your job process, not after your employer asks for it urgently.

Attestation — the critical second step:

  • A PCC from Pakistan must be attested before UAE authorities accept it.
  • The standard chain: attestation by the relevant Pakistani authorities (including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and then UAE attestation as required.
  • A PCC with a broken or incomplete attestation chain will be rejected, delaying your whole work visa. Get the attestation right the first time.

Common problems and how to avoid them:

  • Applying too late: the PCC is often the slowest document in the file. Start it the moment you begin your job application process.
  • Name mismatches: the name on your PCC must match your passport and CNIC exactly. Check spelling before you leave the police office.
  • Old certificates: PCCs have a validity period. A certificate issued too long ago may not be accepted — get a fresh one for your application.
  • Wrong district: apply in the district where you are registered as a resident, or as per the current rules for your situation.

PCC in the bigger picture:

  • The PCC requirement reflects the UAE’s tighter scrutiny of all applicants in 2026. With reported first-time visit visa rejection rates reaching 70–80 percent at the peak, and work visa cases under extra checks, a clean, properly attested PCC is a strong signal of a genuine applicant.
  • Around 40,000 to 50,000 Pakistanis receive UAE employment visas each year. A complete file — including a proper PCC — is how you join them.

Your checklist:

  • Apply for the PCC early, in your home district.
  • Verify every detail matches your passport and CNIC.
  • Complete the full attestation chain.
  • Keep the original and several copies safe.
  • Send it to your employer as soon as it is ready — don’t let it sit.

The PCC is simple paperwork, but it is paperwork that takes time. Start early, and it will never be the reason your Dubai job is delayed.

Disclaimer: PCC procedures, validity, and attestation requirements change. Confirm current rules with your district police office, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and your employer before applying. This post is general information, not legal advice.
